Thankful Tuesday

I have so much to be grateful for in my life. But there are still times in my life where I find myself saying "I wish ___" or "why me?" That is why I choose to be thankful. Every week I list at least five things I am thankful for. I think for me, it has really helped me be a more grateful person.
  • I am thankful for my books. They provide an excellent escape from my life.
  • I am thankful for the girls' counselor. She is just amazing and has really helped the girls, especially Natalie.
  • I am thankful for my oils. I have been suffering allergies for YEARS and was taking a daily allergy pill. Since getting into doTerra I haven't had to take any. When I have the horrible sinus symptoms I simply rub some lavender on the bridge of my nose and it keeps it from running. Put some on this morning at work and it lasted ALL DAY!
  • I am thankful for skype. I had a great chat with my aunt last night and another with my sister Saturday. Both were able to watch Alivia open her presents in real time. Love having that connection.
  • I am thankful for conversations with my sister. She is now my phone call on the way home from work and I love being able to just talk to her and joke like we did when we were younger.

1000 Gifts: 3 gifts waited for

  1. It is a gift to have found Stephen. He is the man I never knew I was waiting for.
  2. It is a gift to be a part of Jamberry. I hesitated getting into a direct sales company but this is a perfect fit for me. I'm so glad I waited for the right opportunity.
  3. Waiting until the last minute to get the girls' Easter baskets ready was a gift. Stephen and I got to spend some time together, we only spent about $35 on all three baskets and the girls were thrilled with them.

Thankful Tuesday

Sometimes I think that maybe I should just stop my "regular posts" like this one, but then I remember how much I have to be thankful for, what a difference being grateful has made in my life. Even in the midst of the worst storms of my life, God shows me over and over how much I have to be thankful for. Here are just five things I am thankful for this week.

  1. I am thankful to have my girls back home. They have been with their dad for spring break. Eleven days away is too long!
  2. I am thankful for a natural way to help treat my girls' symptoms. All three came home sick, but I have been able to "oil them up" and it seriously has made a difference!
  3. I am thankful for an amazing boss who understands that kids get sick and I never get in trouble for missing days to care for them.
  4. I am thankful for my amazing husband. I guess he could see I had a rough afternoon yesterday and surprised me with an Easter lily to brighten our home.
  5. I am thankful for a church family who noticed my absence at church and checked in on me. Made me feel really loved.

1000 Gifts: a gift heard, held, hoped for.

  • It is a gift to hear the laughter of my girls coming from the bedroom.
  • It was a HUGE gift to be able to hold my girls close last night (see above, I missed my snuggles!)
  • It is a gift to get my mom's ring fixed. Now I have no worries about losing part of it. The ring was something I would tease her about inheriting (secretly hoping she might relent and let me have it earlier!) but now that I have it, it is a serious blessing.

Treating a Cold With DoTerra

Wednesday, I wasn't feeling great. Just felt off and by Wednesday night I had my reason, it was a nasty bug attacking my body. By Thursday I felt awful, my symptoms included a cough, runny nose, post-nasal drip, a sore throat and headache. I knew that I wanted to use this as an opportunity to use my doTerra physician's kit.

I am so grateful for my friend Jenna, she is my doTerra guru. She suggested liberal use of On Guard and also Breathe (both doTerra blends.)

I also found a great recipe for a sore throat gargle on pinterest. You simply add two drops of lemon and one drop of on guard in a couple table-spoons of hot water. It shouldn't be so hot that it burns, just hot enough to be able to gargle. Then you simply gargle it a few seconds and then swallow it. This is seriously the BEST RECIPE EVER! It numbs like that spray without the awful taste. Plus it is all natural!

Yesterday I put some Breathe in a roller ball applicator and it's been my best friend. I have also been using it in my diffuser as well as On Guard and Serenity.

I can't say if doTerra made my cold go away any faster, but I do know that it made me much less miserable while dealing with it. Please feel free to comment or email me with any questions or comments you have.

1000 Gifts: three gifts given away

  • It is a gift to have enough in my life to be able to give back to others. I am slowly starting to do a few fundraisers and it feels good to give back.
  • It is a gift to be able to donate the things that we didn't need or use anymore to those who can use it.
  • It is a gift to be able to know that what I don't need anymore goes to help others.

My doTerra Experience

I need to preface this by saying, I am not a doctor. You cannot take my blog as medical advice. I am just telling you what I have learned and how essential oils have helped me.

Let me tell you my back story. I have had headaches all my life. As long as I can remember I have battled them. Since having kids, they just got worse. I was diagnosed with chronic a-typical migraines and put on a preventative medication. That worked really well until I moved here.

Then they started back up, increasing in frequency and severity. We changed my medications a few times with little success. In the spring of this year I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure. My doctor tells me this could have been part of the problem with my headaches and the preventative medications were just masking the problem.

Needless to say, I have just been living with them since. I am on regular blood pressure medication but take nothing for the migraines. Just the occasional "emergency pill" for the really bad ones.

About two months ago, my friend Jenna joined doTerra and brought her oils to work. At first I thought she was crazy, but after trying them, they worked (more details in a few!)

For those unfamiliar with the company, doTerra is one of many essential oil sales companies. DoTerra isn't the only company that sells certified pure therapeutic grade oils. The thing that sets it apart from other companies, in my opinion, because of the Helping Hands Foundation. According to their website:
Healing Hands seeks to bring healing and hope to the world, for lives free of disease and poverty, and to ultimately empower impoverished communities with the tools needed to become self-reliant.
They help people, not with a hand out, but with a hand up. To me, that is important. Other companies have their own farms but doTerra goes out into the area where the plants are native and find growers to teach and then work with them to produce high quality oils.

That is the business plug of my blog, now I will tell you just a tidbit about how oils have helped me use less medication. The initial use of oils was for a headache. First thing Jenna suggested was that I try peppermint. She gave me some that I rubbed onto my temples and on my neck. I wasn't expecting it to, but it worked! Having just that one problem get solved by oils, I knew that I had to get more information.

After a little cajoling, I convinced Stephen to come with me to a class. Jenna's brother shared his story about doTerra (it's amazing!)  We both talked about it and decided that with our tax return we would be buying one of their kits. Since getting that, we have started using the oils a lot!

Every night my girls use On Guard (a protective blend). I have it in a roller ball applicator mixed with some coconut oil. They rub it on themselves now. They also take a little lavender, also rolled on. The final thing my girls get regularly is "good dream spray" which is just lavender mixed with water. I put it in a glass spray bottle and spray their pillows. There isn't a night they go to bed they aren't asking for their oils. Those are just the regular ones.

We used Meleleuca oil for Alivia's reaction to soap (took the redness out pretty quickly!), we also use it on minor scratches and scrapes. The kids have been really receptive to using it on things.

I actually found a new blend on pinterest that I had to try, focus blend. It is just 20 drops of Wild Orange and 20 drops of Peppermint mixed with some coconut oil, also in a roller ball applicator. I apply it whenever I am feeling "off" and it worked wonders on Wednesday at work. I wanted to roll that on like crazy.

Personally, it's been wonderful using less medications. I can't even recall the last time I had to take something for a headache. I just use a little peppermint oil and if that doesn't work, a little Past Tense usually does.

I would love to tell you more, but I'm afraid you might label me the "crazy oil lady." But I guess that's okay with me, so long as you know they work!

1000 Gifts: a gift bent, broken, beautiful
  • It is a gift to see any parent (or adult for that matter) bent down to a child's level. Talking to them, playing with them, loving on them. My kids are so blessed to have so many adults around them who love them. You show your love to a child by not always talking down to them but coming and bending down to their level.
  • It is a gift to be broken, because that means I have Jesus to put me back together and mold me to be used for His will. I have never been as broken as I felt last year and here I am feeling like a new person. He has taken my brokenness and made me feel useful and beautiful.
  • It is a gift to see the beautiful scenery around me. Constant reminders of how much our God loves us. He created this entire world for us to enjoy.
If you have a few minutes, you should check out these prayers for marriage. They are posted by the author of Messy Beautiful Love, Darlene Schacht. She posts them daily and they are just wonderful. Make God the foundation of your marriage and you know you are solid.

Thankful Tuesday (photo edition!)

This week, I thought I would change it up a little and post five things I am thankful for in photo form. It's a little more challenging for me to figure out how to take a picture that expresses what I am thankful for.

Jamberry, the opportunities it's been giving me.

Soda. Some days the caffeine is all that gets me by.

My plants. One of them is the rose my friend Kendra got mom and the other is an angel wing plant that reminds me of the one mom had for my entire childhood.

My wonderful husband.

doTerra - essential oils have helped me to stop using over the counter medications so often. I love them already!

1000 Gifts: three gifts worn

  • It is a gift to have a warm jacket for every member of my family.
  • It is a gift to have multiple pair of shoes for my kids to wear. They might be worn down but they work.
  • It is a gift to have beautiful reminders of those I love that I can wear. Like my ring from my mom. Not only does it remind me of her, but it reminds me of God's provision for our family.

Coffee Date

Its about time you and I had coffee don't you think? While we are sipping our cup of joe, I would use the opportunity to talk about Jamberry a little. Having this conversation lets me write both of our coffees on my taxes (wink!). I would tell you a little about how I am trying to branch out my business. It would probably involve me asking you for some tips on how I can branch out without looking too desperate.

Then I am sure conversation would move on to how things are going in my house. I would probably talk about how happy I am that Stephen is finally feeling better. Pretty sure he's returning to work next week. He's pretty happy about that. I am just praying that this healthy spell lasts.

The conversation would probably drift from there to essential oils. I would freely admit how skeptical I was that they actually would work. Might mention a class I went to, hosted by my friend's brother, and learned a bit more about what oils could help my family and how. We have already bought a few bottles. I found quickly that peppermint works well on my headaches and for the worse ones I have been able to use the doTerra Past Tense blend. Between the two I think I have taken over the counter medications maybe twice. BIG change considering I was taking it on a daily basis before. I would talk about the plans we have to use oils more in our lives to helps us maybe live healthier.

We would probably talk a little bit about Heart Health Awareness month. It's February and on my heart a lot this year. I am trying to raise $100 dollars for the American Heart Association to donate in my mom's name. I have pledged to donate $2 for every one of these wraps I sell. This is in addition to the $2 that Jamberry donates. I am up to $8 so far, so I have a ways to go but I am pretty determined.

If you and I were having coffee I would ask you how life has been. What is something big going on in your life? If you and I were having coffee, what would you tell me?

1000 Gifts: 3 surprise gifts – unexpected grace

  • It is a gift to be surprised by strangers when they show you there is still good in the world.
  • It is a gift to see charity at work. We saw an adoption drive going on at Petco this weekend and it was nice to see people trying to help others.
  • It is a gift to be able to see people I work with go out of their way to help patients and even other staff. I love where I work.
