I need to preface this by saying, I am not a doctor. You cannot take my blog as medical advice. I am just telling you what I have learned and how essential oils have helped me.
Let me tell you my back story. I have had headaches all my life. As long as I can remember I have battled them. Since having kids, they just got worse. I was diagnosed with chronic a-typical migraines and put on a preventative medication. That worked really well until I moved here.
Then they started back up, increasing in frequency and severity. We changed my medications a few times with little success. In the spring of this year I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure. My doctor tells me this could have been part of the problem with my headaches and the preventative medications were just masking the problem.
Needless to say, I have just been living with them since. I am on regular blood pressure medication but take nothing for the migraines. Just the occasional "emergency pill" for the really bad ones.
About two months ago, my friend Jenna joined doTerra and brought her oils to work. At first I thought she was crazy, but after trying them, they worked (more details in a few!)
For those unfamiliar with the company,
doTerra is one of many essential oil sales companies. DoTerra isn't the only company that sells certified pure therapeutic grade oils. The thing that sets it apart from other companies, in my opinion, because of the
Helping Hands Foundation. According to their website:
Healing Hands seeks to bring healing and hope to the world, for lives free of disease and poverty, and to ultimately empower impoverished communities with the tools needed to become self-reliant.
They help people, not with a hand out, but with a hand up. To me, that is important. Other companies have their own farms but doTerra goes out into the area where the plants are native and find growers to teach and then work with them to produce high quality oils.
That is the business plug of my blog, now I will tell you just a tidbit about how oils have helped me use less medication. The initial use of oils was for a headache. First thing Jenna suggested was that I try peppermint. She gave me some that I rubbed onto my temples and on my neck. I wasn't expecting it to, but it worked! Having just that one problem get solved by oils, I knew that I had to get more information.
After a little cajoling, I convinced Stephen to come with me to a class. Jenna's brother shared his story about doTerra (it's amazing!) We both talked about it and decided that with our tax return we would be buying one of their kits. Since getting that, we have started using the oils a lot!

Every night my girls use
On Guard (a protective blend). I have it in a roller ball applicator mixed with some coconut oil. They rub it on themselves now. They also take a little
lavender, also rolled on. The final thing my girls get regularly is "good dream spray" which is just lavender mixed with water. I put it in a glass spray bottle and spray their pillows. There isn't a night they go to bed they aren't asking for their oils. Those are just the regular ones.
We used
Meleleuca oil for Alivia's reaction to soap (took the redness out pretty quickly!), we also use it on minor scratches and scrapes. The kids have been really receptive to using it on things.
I actually found a new blend on pinterest that I had to try, focus blend. It is just 20 drops of
Wild Orange and 20 drops of
Peppermint mixed with some coconut oil, also in a roller ball applicator. I apply it whenever I am feeling "off" and it worked wonders on Wednesday at work. I wanted to roll that on like crazy.
Personally, it's been wonderful using less medications. I can't even recall the last time I had to take something for a headache. I just use a little peppermint oil and if that doesn't work, a little Past Tense usually does.
I would love to tell you more, but I'm afraid you might label me the "crazy oil lady." But I guess that's okay with me, so long as you know they work!
1000 Gifts: a gift bent, broken, beautiful
- It is a gift to see any parent (or adult for that matter) bent down to a child's level. Talking to them, playing with them, loving on them. My kids are so blessed to have so many adults around them who love them. You show your love to a child by not always talking down to them but coming and bending down to their level.
- It is a gift to be broken, because that means I have Jesus to put me back together and mold me to be used for His will. I have never been as broken as I felt last year and here I am feeling like a new person. He has taken my brokenness and made me feel useful and beautiful.
- It is a gift to see the beautiful scenery around me. Constant reminders of how much our God loves us. He created this entire world for us to enjoy.
