Front Door & A Quote

Linking up again this week with Mama Kat for writer's workshop. Want to learn more? Click the link at the bottom of this post.

First prompt I choose was: write about someone who showed up at your front door.

Funny story. This summer I was working from home (still am). Between the kids and the dogs, we don't keep the door locked during the day. That changed for awhile this summer...

We were all hanging out in the living room (and by hanging out I mean I was working and the girls were watching TV. Maverick was in his usual spot, on the back of our couch, right near the front door. I hear this barely audible knock on the door before it swings open. Maverick is frantically barking at the strange woman who just opened our door!  She quickly closed it and walked away.

I went to the door, opened it and asked, "did you need something?" I heard the mumbled reply, "wrong house." I guess it is a problem with living in a duplex that looks identical to the one next door. :/

Prompt number 2: Share a quote you love. I'm going to share two, just because:

Both of these are prominently displayed at my work desk space. Share one of your favorites in the comments.

WW: Great Quotes

Linking up again this week with Mama Kat for writer's workshop.
Share a favorite quote (or group of quotes) that you enjoy and describe what they mean to you.
This is the first thing I thought about. I think of this anytime I think of my metal health. Am I making more deposits then withdrawals? If you suffer from a mental health illness, take a good look at the above. This is a great way to think about your mental health. Another is The Spoon Theory. You can learn more by clicking the link. It will take to to The Mighty, it is an amazing website. Just check it out!

This is something I say to my girls. You are your own worst enemy when you think about yourself. You are MORE then what you think you are.

Embrace the beautiful, weirdo you are!

Lastly, my philosophy on life. If you need me, I will be in my room, reading.

WW: Round Trip, Favorite Desert, Awesome Quotes

Linking up with Mama Kat for writers workshop, just trying to flex those writing muscles so I don't loose them! If you want more info (or to read other people's writing), click the box at the bottom of this post.

You have received a free round trip flight to anywhere in the world, but you to fly somewhere you’ve never been before. Where do you go?

Well, I would buy my roundtrip ticket to somewhere like Naples, Italy then make a road trip around the countries and then back in time to fly home. Here are just a few things I would LOVE to see/do on my tour:
  • Lay on the beach in Naples
  • Rome: see the colosseum
  • Take a boat tour of the canals of Venice
  • Visit the Mauthausen Memorial in Austria
  • beer in Germany (not sure where...)
  • Amsterdam: visit the Secret Annex where Ann Frank hid during WWII
  • Spend a day in London just seeing the sights (including Highgate Cemetary
  • Visit  Dublin Ireland for a day (including the Dublin Castle)
  • Spend a day (and NIGHT) in Paris and see "all the sights"
  • Madrid: Museo Nacional del Prado (big ole museum!)
  • Walk La Rambla in Barcelona
  • See Athens, Greece
  • Return to Naples to go home.
It's going to have to be a LONG trip. I guess I better start saving.

Write about your favorite dessert.

Lets be honest, if you know me, you know I LOVE the sweets. So, a favorite dessert is hard to pick but there is one that brings up the most memories for me. It is something my aunt has made for family gatherings for YEARS. Earlier this summer, she posted just this:

And I KNEW What she was making!!! We call this "tastes like almond Roca" but it is also known as "Christmas Crack." The name tells you JUST what it is and it is AMAZING!

Source

If you want to make some, here is a recipe. Not completely sure this is what my aunt uses, but it looks pretty close. =)

Share a favorite quote you came across recently!

I have four that I've shared on my facebook lately and one from a devotional I just read. Here is the one from my devotional:

I shared it along with this verse: "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19 NIV.

And the facebook ones:

I guess only the first and last ones are quotes, but the other two are simply amazing things just to read.

31 Days of Free Writes: Hope

I am a child of God. I have a hope and a future in Him. There is a promise of a future with him in heaven. One thing I love about the bible is that I can look into it when I am feeling most vulnerable and find something to help me feel stronger and more secure.

Being someone who suffers with anxiety, the bible is that much more important to me. I mentioned in my blog about Alivia's surgery, but there was a verse that I kept saying to myself over and over. It was something that brought me great comfort in a time where I was very anxious. I thought for this blog post, I would share a few of the verses about hope that have really helped me throughout my life.

Thankful Tuesday

Today, I am thankful for the promises God gives us. Here are five that jumped out at me today.

I am thankful that God is with me every single place I go.

I am thankful that we have a God who knows that sometimes we need the visual reminder of his promise.

I am thankful he will never leave me or forsake me.

He cares for the birds of the air, we are so much more important to Him. He will take care of us.

He is close to the brokenhearted. Sometimes I feel so weary, He knows that. He's my strength and portion.

FMF: Help

Joining in with the Five Minute Friday writers again. You can learn more by clicking the link at the bottom of this post.
If you would like to learn more about how to share with
your kids about tragic events, please visit
fredrogers.org. LOTS of amazing resources there to help.
I may have cheated just a little bit, I had to find this quote before my five started (left). When thinking about the word help, I can't help but remember this quote. In the same way that when tragedy strikes, it again brings this to the forefront of my mind. There is help all around us. We just need to look for it. Sometimes it is as easy to see as the police officer handing a homeless person some water and a meal. Other times it is the children who did this. Cheating again to find that article to include here but it is so worth it.

Help is easy to find, and easy to do. You can help your neighbor by mowing their lawn. Or you can help the single mother at church by offering an afternoon off by watching her children. There are so many ways you can be the help in the world. And that is what we, as Christians, have been called to be. We are to be the hands and feet of Christ on this earth. If Jesus were here right now, I know that he would be helping everyone he could. During this time of high tension in our country between police and the people, it is easy to get caught up in the "he should have done this" or "they shouldn't have done that." Why not just offer your support to both sides. Offer an officer a thank you. Join in a peaceful protest. Be the change. Offer help when it is needed. Be the help that this world so desperately needs.
