Inspired by Mama's losin' it here is another week of Writers Workshop. I can only hope it will improve my writing skills. :)
The Prompts:
1.) If you could cut back on something in your life that takes up your time what would it be? And what would you prefer to spend that time doing?
2.) Share a recent adventure you had with a friend.
3.) Describe a memorable gift. Why was it important to you?4.) If you could change career paths now and be anything you wanted to be...what would you be and why?
5.) Sum up life in 45 words: In the St. Louis News-Dispatch paper, they had an article of a man who wrote his own obituary before his death, and gave it to his sister to post when he died. He summed life up in 45 words. What would yours say?
This week there are a couple interesting ones. I think I might just do more than one. I am going to pick #5 for sure! and then 2. I actually have something semi interesting that happened just last week. So, sit back and enjoy this weeks Writer's Workshop.
#2: I wouldn't really call this exciting, by most people's standards, but in my life you have to take what you can get... LOL! Anyway, I had been dying to try out a new recipe for Swiss Chicken Casserole (I will include that at the end, just in case) and shared it with my friend. We were later chatting and she said she was going to make it that night. I complained that I wanted to try it first, and she made me an offer I really couldn't refuse she would come, pick me up at my house, and take us both shopping to buy what we needed. It was girl time and no kids! :) So, she picked me up and off to wal mart we went. On the way she told me a story, somehow, and I can't remember exactly how, but it came up that her husband while being a baby, pouted saying he would feel better if he had a pink princess cake with sprinkles and 8 pink roses. And, being who she is, my best friend had to do it. It was something he would never expect to really get, really what man would. lol. Anyway, we got our stuff and he got his present when she got home, she said he laughed like crazy, and her four year old daughter cried that she didn't get a pink princess cake! Anyway, it was funnier in real life, but you get the idea. Here is that recipe just in case
Swiss Chicken Casserole
You will need: six boneless skinless chicken breasts, six slices swiss cheese, 1 can of condensed creme of chicken soup, 1/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup butter, and two cups herb stuffing mix (Peppridge Farm works well, but any brand works)
What to do:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
2. Arrange the chicken in a greased 13x9x2 baking dish and top with swiss slices
3. Mix the milk with the condensed chicken soup and milk and spoon over chicken
4. Sprinkle the stuffing mix over the top
5. Drizzle with butter
6. Cook for 50 mins or until internal temp reaches at least 165 degrees
There you go, and its DELISH! I made it first try without any screw ups, but it did take longer than the 50 mins, I had really thick breasts. :)
And now for the more morbid of the prompts, I get to write my own obituary :) Fun. In 45 words or less!
Elizabeth Smith is survived by her loving husband Jimmy and three beautiful children, McKayla, Natalie, and Alivia. Elizabeth, known by her family and friends as Betsy was known as a caring and affectionate person. She was always around to listen if someone needed to talk. Betsy was loved and will be greatly missed.
Word count: 54
I cheated a little, and I think its super lame. But oh well, I got time to work on it right?? lol
Oh, and one more thing. A very Happy Birthday to my baby brother, Mike, who is 21 today!! YAY! And I lied, because I have one more, today is also my parents 28th wedding anniversary!! I hope both have many more happy years! :)

Happy Birthday Mike, and Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!
ReplyDeleteYour friend sounds fun...I would totally buy J a pink princess cake, too! Though, J probably wouldn't ask for it. I would do it just to see his reaction - and to see him eat it. The man can't let good cake go to waste.
Okay, the obituary is a little morbid. (I think what you wrote was true, though!) But you know what it reminded me of? Six word memoirs. Have you heard of those? Apparently Hemingway once was challenged to write a six word story and what he came up with was, "For sale: Baby shoes, never worn." Then, in 2006 SMITH magazine challenged readers to do the same: write their own six-word memoirs. I'm totally going to do something like this with my students next year! They range from sad to inspirational to funny to downright strange.
Some of my favorites:
"Cursed with cancer, blessed with friends."
"I still make coffee for two."
"Moved away, experienced life, moved back."
"Not quite what I was planning."
"Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Kept going."
Oh, there are so many more! Google it if you're interested!
Betsy, I will have to try that! We have one where you put uncooked minute rice, cream of chicken soup and some water, along with chicken breasts into a casserole dish with a lid and bake. the rice cooks up along with the chicken and it's FABULOUS. I think I might have sent you the recipe already, but it sounds similar in concept to the swiss chicken you just posted. I'll have to try it out with my family!
ReplyDeleteAnd I like the 6 word story idea! I want to hear more about the "not quite what I was planning" one
Lol! I love you!
