I figured it was about time for me to talk about what I have been reading and such. Going to do it a bit different this time. I will share a couple that I am going to read, a couple I am reading and a couple I just finished. All links will take to to the Goodreads page for that book. If you are on goodreads, feel free to add me! You can find my profile here, then you can see what I am reading, what I want to read and what I have finished. You can also keep tabs on how I am doing on my goal to 100 books this year (spoiler, I have already finished 16 putting me ahead of my goal by five books already!).
Currently on my "to read" bookshelf I have a few I am looking forward to reading:
Get out of that Pit by Beth Moore. I have heard such great things about this author and this book just jumped off the shelf at me.
When Happily Ever After Shatters: Seeing God in the Midst of Divorce and Single Parenting by Sue Birdseye. This was another one that seemed to be right place right time. I happened to see it while looking for a book on being a single mom. I am trying to get my focus more from the divorce on to the healing.
I also have a couple books I am currently reading that I am really liking.
Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld has been on my goodreads bookshelf for a LONG time! I happened to see it in the new release section of the library and picked it up. I'm only 90 pages in, not sure I am going to love it, but I do like it so far. Just a lot different then the books I have been reading.
As part of a women's bible study group we are reading Watchman Nee's book The Normal Christian Life. I am only two chapters in and can't say if I love it or not. I certainly like some of the things he is saying and some of the ways he puts things. I will try and share more about this as I keep reading. My friend Erika (and host of the group!) posted her recap of chapter one here. I think she sums it up quite nicely.
Book Reviews
And a couple books I have recently finished:
World After by Susan Ee - 4/5 stars. This is the second book in the saga that looks like it might be five books long. I did like this book but not quite as much as I did Angelfall, the first one, but it did keep me reading. This book follows the separate journeys of Penryn and the angel Rafe who helped her find her sister. This is another dystopian book, in this case, the end of civilization as we know it is caused by an attack by angels after humans kill their messenger. While I don't love that they portray angels in this way, I really do like the series so far. I have already added books three through five to my "to read" shelf, even though only one of them even has a expected publication date (2014).
Everlasting by Alyson Noel - 4/5 stars. This is the final book in the Immortals series. I mentioned the series in this post. I wasn't sure I was going to love this series, but I really did end up enjoying it. In fact, I gave each book in the series 4/5 stars. The end was just right. I felt like I had closure with the characters but also left enough open to dream about what could be happening next. The plot kept you guessing what was going to happen and the characters were all believable. There were a few times where it did feel a bit cheesy, but I pushed through and am glad that I did. None of the books felt like the first one, which I am very grateful for.

I've enjoyed other books by Curtis Sittenfeld but never got around to reading Sisterland -- I may check it out, but most reviews have been like yours :)
ReplyDeleteYeah... this isn't quite what I was expecting.
DeleteI envy you! I wish I could just turn my brain off and read. I havne't truly read a book for years. Ugh. =)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could share my secret, but it's just something I can do. =)
DeleteLove Beth Moore. I've read another book of Curtis Sittenfeld and it was a little weird....not terrible, but not what I expected.
ReplyDeleteI have taken a small break from Sisterland while my bff was visiting, but hoping to finish it sometime this week. I agree, not what I was expecting at all.
