Honor can be a difficult thing to qualify. The school can honor your child with an award, work can honor you with special recognition, but I think the most important honor is that given to the people who serve our country. They are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we are allowed to enjoy in this country. I find it really encouraging when I see the facebook stories about people who go out of their way to help a veteran. I was just reading one this morning about a veteran who's son took him out. This particular man had parkinsons and was not the tidiest eater. His son did the best he could to clean the area up and took his father to the restroom to clean up. While he was in there, the waitress put the check on the table and it simply said "Thank you for your service" with a zero due balance. I'm not sure if it was the waitress who paid or another patron but it was a beautiful thing. We need to give our vets the honor they deserve. One way that I honor our vets is by always saying thank you to those who are wearing hats or shirts that tell that they have served. I try to shake their hands and thank them personally.
