When I see the word alive, I can't help but think of the Sunday school song:
Alive, alive, alive forever more
my Jesus is alive
alive forever more
alive, alive, alive forevermore
my Jesus is alive.
Sing hallelujah, sing hallelujah,
my Jesus is alive forevermore.
Sing hallelujah, sing hallelujah,
My Jesus is alive.
I can't help but sing it as I am typing. Especially with Easter just two days away. Makes me think of what happened to Jesus on good Friday. He was not alive. He was crucified in the most painful, humiliating way. I imagine his followers were feeling pretty hopeless. Little did they know that he would be raised from the dead just three days later.
There aren't words to express how they must have felt. Seeing the man you thought was your savior being killed right in front of you, feeling all the hope for your future dying with him. Then imagine seeing him when he rose again. Were they jumping for joy? Trembling in fear? Worried it was a trick? But it wasn't. He really was alive.
He still is. He rose to take the sins of the world away. He came and died that horrible death and would have done it if you were the only person on earth. That is alive. He has given all of us eternal life. What better gift could he give us?
