Rest. My vacation starts at 1:30 pm today. I can't help but think of how much I need this. A time away from work to rest and recharge my batteries. In looking at my calendar, it doesn't look like I will be getting much. Part of that is my fault. Going home for vacation means spending time with family. That means that sometimes I sacrifice my rest time for family time. That's okay with me though. Time with my family is another kind of rest for me. Since losing mom, this time is that much more important.
We have another kind of rest offered to us. God tells us repeatedly in His word to come to Him and He would give us rest. Not necessarily the kind of rest that involves your comfy bed and pillow. No, this is the kind of rest that is for our soul. With all the evil that is in this world, our soul needs a place where it can go to have peace. There is only one person who can give us real rest and that is Jesus. With Him, we can handle anything because we have inside us peace. The turmoil around us won't matter because we know we will have eternal rest when we leave this place. We just need to wait out the storm and trust in Him to give us the rest we need.
